About bodies and beats

Bodies & Beats World Music & Dance event

Bodies and Beats World Music and Dance events began as a collaboration to promote the amazingly talented dance teachers and performers in the Sussex area.  At the same time this filled a void in the 'Bellydance' scene in the South, as well as bringing awareness of dance and other cultures to the local community.

I wanted to represent not only Egyptian Bellydance but also its roots and links with other dance styles including Samba, Flamenco, African, Tribal, Poi, Bollywood, Burlesque, Classical Indian, Tunisian, Gypsy and many more. The event has grown and expanded over the years building on its reputation as a unique and 'friendly event' whilst keeping its initial intention and vision.

'Bodies and Beats' also has offshoots in the form of 'Bodies and Beats Kids,' 'WORMAD' (Worthing World Music and Dance) and 'Orient Expressions' monthly Hafla.'Bodies and  Beats' now runs over a weekend and invites internationally recognised artists. To date these include Leila Haddad, Maria D'Silva, Storm, Ashraf Hassan, Helena of Duende Flamenco, Hossam and Serena Ramzy with the Hossam Ramzy Egyptian Ensemble, DJ Sunmonkey and DJ Ali Khatt.

'Bodies and Beats' is unique as it features so many variations of dance and attracts many first time dancers including men, as well as more experienced dancers.
